Massasoit supports immigrants and students whose first language is not English through a variety of English language learning courses. These courses are available for new students, those who wish to become students, or those who simply want to improve their English language skills in their professional and personal lives.


Free While You Wait Workshops

Come practice your English-speaking skills in a friendly, fun environment. We’ll gather to chat and interact. We may play games, make crafts, write poetry, do puzzles, and, of course, talk! This event is open to all members of the community. Any age and English-language proficiency level welcome. Attendees do not need to be enrolled in Massasoit courses.
Workshops meet on Thursdays from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m.

Academic ESOL (Credit)

This program is for the intermediate to advanced language learner interested in pursuing a degree program and earning credit towards a degree program.

Academic ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) is an advanced college-level program that has been specifically designed for students whose first language is not English and who need to develop their English proficiency to a level appropriate for college courses in an American college curriculum. These courses allow you to earn credit toward a degree at Massasoit.

  • Registration requires an assessment
  • Students may qualify for financial aid
  • Courses receive college credit
  • Course tuition based on Massasoit’s credit course tuition and fees
  • Courses are offered in the day and evening at the Brockton Campus
  • Program runs in the fall and spring semesters

Adult Basic Education ESOL (Non Credit)

This program offers beginner to advanced level English language classes from September to May and is funded by a Massachusetts grant. Classes are FREE to all who meet the eligibility requirements.

The Adult Basic Education Program (ABE) at Massasoit Community College offers adult learners English as a Second Language (ESOL) classes to further support adult learners educational and careers goals at no cost to the students.

  • Courses are offered in the evening at the Brockton and Canton Campuses
  • Program runs in the fall and spring semesters

Community Education ESOL (Non-Credit)

The Non-credit ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) program offers beginner to advanced level English classes in person on the Brockton campus during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Tuition is required for all courses.

The English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Non-Credit program is designed for students interested in learning the English language for career or academic purposes. Our courses are designed for adult students with varying levels of English speaking ability – from those that speak very little English to those that are conversational and want to master the language.
