The Cost of Attendance (COA) is an estimate of the total cost of attending Massasoit Community College for one academic year. It includes both direct costs—expenses billed by the college—and estimated indirect costs, which represent other necessary educational expenses.

Types of COA Expenses

  • Direct Costs: Expenses billed directly by the college, such as tuition and fees.

  • Estimated Indirect Costs: Anticipated costs students may incur while attending college, such as books, supplies, living expenses, and transportation. These costs are not billed by the college but are considered when determining financial aid eligibility.

Understanding COA & Financial Aid

COA is not your actual bill. It’s used to determine your maximum eligibility for financial aid, including grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study

The short video below provides a deeper explanation on the COA.

For returning Massasoit students who completed a FAFSA for the 2025-2026 academic year, your housing status remains the same as previously reported.

For new students and those who did not complete a FAFSA for 2025-2026, we have assumed the following:

  1. Dependent students (required to report parent information) are assumed to live with a parent or guardian.

  2. Independent students (not required to report parent information) are assumed to live independently without a parent or guardian.

If these assumptions are incorrect, please complete the ‘Housing Status Update Form’ on the Financial Aid Forms page of the Massasoit website.

Students enrolled in a degree or certificate program and registered for 9 or more credits are required to participate in the Student Health Insurance Program (SHIP) or provide proof of comparable coverage. The annual premium for the 2025–2026 academic year (September 1, 2025 – August 31, 2026) is $4,379. The premium for the spring semester (January 1, 2026 – August 31, 2026) is $2,919.

Students who already have health insurance that meets SHIP requirements may waive the insurance charge by submitting a waiver through theMyMassasoit Portal under “Health Insurance Waiver” in Student Self-Service. This includes most MassHealth plans, such as Tufts Health Together and BMC HealthNet.

However, students enrolled in limited coverage programs, such as the Children’s Medical Security Plan (CMSP), are not eligible for a waiver and must enroll in SHIP.

A loan fee of $50 (subject to change) is included in the Cost of Attendance for students participating in the Federal Direct Loan Program. This amount reflects the average fee paid by borrowers during the 2024–2025 academic year.

the cost of obtaining that license or certification may be included in your cost of attendance. This applies only to the first credential needed to enter your field. Costs are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the Financial Aid Office if you expect to incur these expenses.

The following expenses may be included in your cost of attendance if they apply to your situation:

  • Dependent car expenses (such as childcare) required to attend classes
  • Disability-related expenses
  • Costs related to study-abroad
  • Other program-specific costs not alreasy reflected in the standard budget

If you have education-related costs that are not reflected in the standard cost of attendance, you may request a review for a possible budget adjustment. In most cases, a COA adjustment is not necessary unless you are seeking to increase your eligibility for additional need-based aid, such as a Subsidized Direct Loan, or to raise your overall aid cap. Contact the Financial Aid Office for more information.

Tuition and Fees are subject to change at any time during an academic year and are determined by the Massasoit Board of Trustees and the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education.
