The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Division is a group of educators and scholars dedicated to helping students develop a strong understanding of the natural world and how this knowledge can be used and applied. Whether it is through developing or honing mathematical skill, building an awareness of the physical laws that govern the behavior of energy and matter, or helping to understand the mechanisms of life, the division strives to provide students with the knowledge and skills to be successful in a range of fields.

Our students learn through traditional and non-traditional educational experiences, such as: classes; lab exercises; hybrid, online, and self-paced learning environments; seminars; workshops; and research internships. The Division hopes to impart to our students the ability and skill to use their knowledge to enrich themselves, others, and the natural world.

If you have an issue requiring the Dean’s attention, including waiver requests, please email us with your contact information and as much information about your situation as possible, including documentation if applicable.

Please feel free to call us at 508-588-9100 x1508; in most cases, someone will be available to assist you on business days from 7:30 a.m. -5:30 p.m. If you reach our voicemail, leave a detailed message including your name, phone number, email address, and Massasoit student ID number (V number) if applicable. We will respond as quickly as possible.

Please note that the Dean does not waive prerequisite requirements without evidence of either completion of equivalent college-level work or testing results.

  • For students who require, but have not completed, the Biological Principles I prerequisite, attempting the Biology Challenge Exam
  • Students who do not meet math prerequisites may attempt (or re-attempt once per semester) Accuplacer testing, also at Testing & Assessment.

The Faculty members of the Biology Department at Massasoit are committed to helping students understand and appreciate the complexity of living systems. Whether taking biology courses to satisfy curiosity, fill general education requirements, prepare for a Health Sciences program, or on the path to a higher degree in biology, students who rise to the challenges of biology courses become better prepared for whatever lies ahead.

Massasoit’s Engineering and Networking Technologies department provides students with a thorough foundation to earn an associate in science degree and then transfer to a four-year institution for completion of their bachelor’s degree. Students in our Engineering Transfer program have the opportunity to choose from four options: Civil, Chemical, Electrical, and Mechanical, depending on their area of interest.

The Mathematics Department at Massasoit is focused on helping students to fulfill their potential and build better lives. We believe in putting students first in all that we do. Our approach to teaching mathematics is to promote active learning and student responsibility. We believe that high expectations and standards are critical to the mastery of course outcomes and to the long term academic success of our students. We support experimentation in the classroom and encourage teaching through alternative modalities. We believe in using data to improve student success and to guide departmental decision-making.

The Physical Science department at Massasoit offers students a variety of courses to choose from in order to fulfill a general education requirement for graduation at Massasoit or four year institution or to further their interest in a specific area of science. These courses range from physics and chemistry to geology, astronomy, meteorology and physical oceanography. With the exception of astronomy each course has both a lecture and a laboratory component that emphasize both the practical, hands-on involvement with the process of science as well as acquiring an understanding of basic scientific concepts.

Since 1985, Massasoit’s Truck and Heavy Equipment Technology programs have been preparing students with an up-to-date, broad range of knowledge and skills necessary to work within the dynamic field of truck and heavy equipment technology. Through classroom lectures and hands-on laboratory instruction, the program is designed to train truck and heavy equipment technicians who can maintain, repair, and overhaul heavy duty and medium vehicle engines and support systems. Students can enroll in a 2-year Associate in Applied Science program with options to focus on Heavy Equipment or Hydraulics. We also offer a 1-year certificate program for students that prepare them for work in the diesel field.

The Veterinary Technology Program at Massasoit Community College is a CVTEA-AVMA accredited 2-year comprehensive program leading to an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science. The program is designed to prepare students to enter the workforce as a veterinary technician by providing valuable education and experience. It also prepares students to sit for the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE). The VTNE is a computer-based exam required for veterinary technician credentialing in most states and provinces.
