Welcome to the Massasoit Community College Adult Basic Education Program
The Adult Basic Education Program (ABE) at Massasoit Community College offers adult learners English as a Second Language (ESOL) classes, and a Transition to Community College Program, to further adult learners educational and careers goals at no cost to the students.
The Massasoit Community ESOL Program and the Transition to Community College Program are funded by grants from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and are FREE to all who meet the eligibility requirements.

Ms. Jacobs has a master’s degree in education from the University of Massachusetts, Boston and has worked in special and general education since 2011. Since 2015, she has worked as an ESL instructor in a number of community education programs throughout Massachusetts. She has also worked to create and implement curriculum for culturally and linguistically diverse learners and to create curriculum that is accessible for learners of diverse needs and abilities. For the last five years, Ms. Jacobs has also worked extensively to advocate for and provide resources and opportunities to adults from diverse backgrounds.

Mr. Hunter holds a Bachelor of Science from Northeastern University and brings over 15 years of experience in adult education, workforce development, and public service. His career includes Director of Adult Education at the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center and teaching positions in China at Qiqihar University and at Yew Wah International Education School in Shanghai. He has also served as a Legislative Aide at the Massachusetts State House and taught workplace education at the Asian American Civic Association. Mr. Hunter joined Massasoit Community College in 2025 as Associate Director of Adult Basic Education and ESOL.
ABE Massasoit ESOL Free English Classes
The Massasoit Community ESOL Program offers English language classes for students whose first language is not English. Beginner to advanced levels are offered in a hybrid model on the Canton Campus and in-person on the Brockton campus throughout the school year.
Currently Accepting New Students
Complete the ESOL Interest Form and you will be contacted to come in for a placement test. These classes meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and have both online and in-person learning options. Classes are free for all students.

The Transition to Community College Program, held on the Brockton campus, gives adult learners the opportunity to gain the necessary academic skills to enter a college degree or certificate program at Massasoit.

Complete the Transitions Interest Form. You will be contacted to sign up for a small group information session to review the application process and benefits of the program.
