Transition to Community College
What is the Transition to Community College Program?
The Transition to Community College is a free program designed to help prepare adult learners for successful transition to taking courses for a college degree, a credit certificate program, or a continuing education certificate program at Massasoit Community College. Students who complete the program by taking credit courses may apply them to a Massasoit degree or certificate.
This program is funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Individuals are eligible for the free program and services if they:
- Have been enrolled in a DESE-funded Massachusetts Adult Basic Education ESOL or HiSet (GED) program
- Have a photo ID
- Are a Massachusetts resident
- Have a GED/HiSet OR are near completion OR be an ESOL student with a high school diploma from their native country
- Are able to demonstrate the ability to read at a college level as determined by a standardized assessment
- Are able to participate in postsecondary level academic classes conducted in English
The Transition to Community College Program includes:
- Educational and career advising (see below for more details)
- A required College Success Seminar
- Financial support for any Massasoit credit or continuing education courses, textbooks, and related materials
- Workshops on reading, writing, math, algebra, and digital literacy
Educational and career advisement services include:
- Advising to help students achieve their educational, career, and life goals
- Assessments designed to help students set their educational and career paths as well as life goals
- Student orientation and referrals to college support services including:
- Assistance using computer resources available through the Massasoit Library, MyMassasoit portal, and online learning (Canvas)
- Financial Aid
- Personal tutoring at the Academic Resource Center (ARC)

- Advising Career & Transfer (ACT) Center
- Health and Wellness services[BROKEN LINK] as well as Student Mental Health and Wellness services

All classes, textbooks and related course materials plus local transportation (BAT passes) are free to qualified students.
Two to three semesters.
You will develop the academic skills necessary to succeed in college courses. With such skills, you will be able to continue on your educational path toward a college degree or certificate program at Massasoit Community College.
